At Rambler Tempe, our leasing team has guided hundreds of students through the reletting process, making it straightforward and stress-free when you know the steps. While all Rambler Tempe residents sign a 12-month lease, we understand that plans can change, so we make it easy for you to relet your space if needed.

To make things easier, we’ve outlined the reletting process at Rambler Tempe, including the key steps you’ll need to take and any fees that both you and your reletter will need to cover.

1. Find a reletter

Rambler Tempe residents who wish to relet are responsible for finding someone to take over their spot in the unit.

To find a reliable reletter who can meet their obligations and get along well with your roommates, consider reaching out to people you already know. Consider friends, classmates, ASU group chats or fellow club members. If your personal network doesn’t yield results, consider posting in ASU housing forums or local Facebook groups dedicated to Tempe rentals. Many ASU students look for summer housing in Tempe for classes, research or internships, so starting your search early can help you connect with those in need of a place at Rambler. Finding a reletter can be a lot like finding a roommate, so check out our guide to finding a roommate in Tempe Arizona for more tips.

2. Notify management

Anyone interested in reletting your apartment at Rambler Tempe must complete the standard leasing process, which includes submitting an application and signing a lease.

To start this process, simply email management and CC your potential reletter. This allows your reletter to respond directly, confirming their intent to take over your unit. We recommend this approach as it ensures that the correct monthly rental rate is clearly communicated and accurately reflected in the lease documents.

Your reletter will need to complete the Rambler Tempe application, which typically takes 15 to 30 minutes. They should be prepared to provide basic information, including:

  • Driver’s License
  • Emergency Contact
  • Pet Information (if interested in bringing a pet)
  • Current Residence

As part of the application process, your reletter will need to pass both a background check and a credit screening.

When it’s time to sign the lease, the reletter must also provide a valid guarantor or meet the qualifications to act as a self-guarantor. For more information regarding what a guarantor is and why you need one, check out our article on what’s a guarantor.

The reletter will have to pay an administrative fee, application fee and security deposit. Visit our FAQ page to learn more about the current cost of all fees.

If the reletter fails to complete any of the steps above, they will be unable to relet your apartment at Rambler Tempe.

Applications are usually processed within three to five business days, but we recommend starting the process as early as possible to avoid delays.

Once your reletter has completed their application and screening, you’ll be responsible for a $350 administrative fee.

If you prefer that we find a reletter for you, there’s a reletting fee equal to 100% of one month’s rent. For instance, if your monthly rent is $1,399, the reletting fee would be $1,399. This fee covers advertising your unit, administrative costs, and any additional expenses involved in securing a reletter.

All balances, including applicable fees, must be fully paid before we can send you a relet agreement.

Our leasing team at Rambler House will guide you through every step, ensuring a smooth and straightforward process.

5. Relet agreement

After completing the steps above, both you and your reletter must sign a relet agreement, which will outline the specific terms of the relet.

If either party fails to complete the relet agreement, it will not be approved, and you’ll remain responsible for the full lease term.

6. Finalize the details

If any keys or devices aren’t returned, a fee will apply: $100 for a key fob replacement, $100 for a parking sticker and $25 for a bedroom or mailbox key.

Once you’ve completed all the steps, you’ll be fully released from the obligations of your lease, which will then be transferred to your reletter.

What if I want to take the original lease back?

If you temporarily relet your unit to another person, such as while studying abroad, and plan to return to take over the lease again, only one relet fee will be charged. The unit will be handed over in its existing condition at each transition between residents.

There are a few common scenarios where this may happen:

  • You relet your unit for the fall semester while you’re abroad but plan to move back in for the spring.
  • You study abroad during the spring semester and want to return for the summer.
  • You relet your unit just for the summer but have already renewed your lease, so you’ll move back in for the fall.
  • When you return, you will be required to submit a new application and sign a new lease. Your guarantor will also need to complete the application and screening process again. However, you will not be required to pay any additional signing fees.

Key, parking pass, and mailbox key transfers will be managed through our leasing office, Rambler House.
